It all started with Edgar Schmidt who began work at Kreuz Market in Lockhart, TX back in 1936. In 1948, Edgar bought the business and continued the tradition of serving up some of the best barbecue in the country. Today, the Schmidt family still rely on traditional cooking methods and choice cuts of meat to achieve the flavor that so many have come to love. With three generations of family in the barbecue business, we intend to run Schmidt Family Barbecue using the same straight forward principles created by grandpa, who ran Kreuz for 48 years!
In Ella Townes' 29 years at Kreuz Market, she has worked for Edgar, Don, Rick and still works for Keith Schmidt today. The addresses have changed through the years, but the Schmidt family has been the constant thread.
